Drugs arrests after joint operation by Queensland Police Service and NSW Police Force

Two men connected to a drug trafficking syndicate based in Sydney, supplying significant quantities of drugs into Queensland, will face court today following a joint operation between the Drug and Serious Crime Group and NSW Police overnight.

As part of an ongoing operation, in partnership with NSW Police and with assistance from the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), the NSW Crime Commission (NSWCC), members attached to Taskforce Sentry intercepted a vehicle allegedly used to traffic drugs from NSW to QLD yesterday afternoon.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a large amount of precursor chemicals that could be used in methylamphetamine production.

Detectives later executed search warrants at a residence in Eight Mile Plains and a building site in Luscombe and arrested a 30-year-old man in relation to drug offences.

As a result of these searches, police seized cash, a mobile phone, 130kg of cannabis, 1.5kg of cocaine and 2000 litres of chemicals which have been taken for forensic examination.

The man was charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous drug exceeding the schedule, possession of things used in connection with an offence against the Drugs Misuse Act 1986 and tainted property. He was refused bail to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Following further inquiries, officers from NSW Police stopped a truck on the Pacific Highway at Lew and arrested a 24-year-old man. It will be alleged in court that the man travelled to QLD from Sydney to supply prohibited drugs.

During a search of the truck, police located and seized mobile phones and $476,000 secreted in an external lockable box on the vehicle.

A subsequent search warrant was executed at a business in Smithfield where cocaine was seized.

The 24-year-old was charged with supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity) and knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime. He will appear at Port Macquarie Local Court today.
