DVA Clinical Health Advisers stand ready to assist with veterans’ care

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs, which oversees an extensive range of programs for veterans including one specifically designed for dental treatment, employs fully qualified and credentialed health professionals, which include dentists, who are employed to help veterans and families receive the health care and services they need in line with the DVA’s treatment and funding arrangements.

While dentists cannot speak directly to these Clinical Health Advisers which comprise dentists and other health professionals including doctors, occupational therapists, psychologists and others, they “may at times work with providers to increase their understanding of the treatment options available under DVA funding arrangements.”

DVA’s Health Advisers’ role includes:

– providing clinical advice to DVA staff to support the delivery of appropriate healthcare to veterans and their families;

– supporting DVA with the development and implementation of DVA’s policies and programs;

– supporting DVA with provider communication and education; and

– quality assurance activities.

If you are a dentist providing treatment to veterans under the DVA’s program, and you need advice on veteran eligibility, DVA health arrangements and/or prior approval to provide treatment or care, you can call the Health Provider Line on 1800 550 457 (Select Option 3, then Option 1). If needed, DVA Health Provider Line staff will then consult with a health Adviser to provide clinically informed advice.
