Eat Local Month

Give local flavours this Mother’s Day

(and earn massive points 😉)

This really should be a community service announcement: for Mother’s Day this year, give mum an ‘experience’ she will love, never forget and that will catapult you straight to the position of favourite child.

That ‘experience’ is one of the 37 incredible long lunches, degustations and dinners of the famous Scenic Rim Eat Local Month in June. All have been custom-created by great producers and chefs to celebrate local flavours and spectacular locations. From vineyards to breweries, mountaintops to wood-fired cafes, under 120 year old jacaranda trees, in flower fields, on dairies, in olive groves and right across the region’s best restaurants.

OR ….. book mum into one of the 43 workshops and classes during Eat Local Month – there’s gin blending classes, cocktail making, edible flower picking, cupcake decorating and floral tea blending (how cool!), fondant and charcuterie classes at The Paddock at Beechmont Estate, gourmet mushroom growing and cooking, garlic and ginger growing, a fantastic Crop-to-Cup and Brewing Class at Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation and more.

Even better, organise for some of mum’s friends to go as well. Then your position as favourite is set for eternity.

Jump online NOW at eatlocalmonth.com.au and book the tickets – there’s some suggestions below….

For petal-loving mums, on Friday 9 June there’s Floravesence – An Evening in the Flowers at the Scenic Rim Farm Shop & Café and Elderflower Farm’s flower field. Plus, there’s floral-inspired cocktails from Cauldron Distillery. Blooming brilliant! The next weekend (16-18 June) there’s another first – The Progressive Paddock, a walking food adventure through the Scenic Rim Farm Shop & Café farm before chef Ash Martin cooks the main meal over an open fire. There’s four fabulous six-course dining experiences at beautiful homewares boutique My Country Escape at Canungra hosted by Julie Frost from Mrs Frost’s Kitchen, and up the road at Tamborine Mountain, Copperhead Restaurant has the Sunset Soiree.

For something really special, buy mum tickets to the sixth generation Tommerup’s Dairy Farm’s Feast on the Farm with guest chef Richard Ousby on Sunday 25 June.

On Friday 32 June, Two French Chefs at The Overflow Estate 1895 is hosting a stunning Friday Long Lunch, matched with their own wines, and the following day Oaky Creek Farm near Rathdowney shines the light on growing garlic, ginger and turmeric (FYI, their café is a masterclass in country hospitality).

Elderflower Farm is hosting Floral Tea Picking and blending, cupcake decorating with edible flowers, and bouquet classes. MUM WILL LOVE THESE! But book NOW!

Towri Sheep Cheeses at Allenview is hosting the inaugural Eat Local Month running of the famous Towri Twilight Woolly Cup (Sunday 25 June) – an evening gathering starring local produce and Towri’s famous Lavender Punch.

Also new to Eat Local Month is the Fermented Food Festival on Saturday 10 June, celebrating the taste-bud blowing world of food fermentation, and hosted by Summer Land Camels and the Pickling Project. If mum is into pickling THIS IS THE EVENT FOR HER!!!

Need more ideas?
