Electric Vehicle Charging Station: Bayside

Bayside Council is working with Intellihub and Ausgrid to install a pole-mounted electric vehicle (EV) charging station at Banks Avenue, Daceyville as part of a trial program.

“This trial program will help determine the demand for commercial EV charging facilities within Bayside and monitor how this demand changes over time,” Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.

The trial will also assess the power being drawn from the electricity grid, its cost profile over time, and whether other EV infrastructure formats could be implemented over the coming years.

Council Staff across several departments worked with Intellihub to identify suitable locations within Bayside.

The 90-degree car park spaces situated to the east of David Phillips Field on Banks Avenue, Daceyville have been identified as having suitable pole and electricity infrastructure for an EV charging station due to its popularity at certain periods during the week.

The site also meets the following criteria:

  • Complies the technical specifications provided by Ausgrid, the network operator.
  • Located on Council’s on-street parking.
  • Minimal impact on residential and commercial parking spaces.

The dedicated parking bay will be clearly marked, and drivers may face a fine if parked there while not charging.

Council is now asking for community feedback to help determine the final location of the trial EV charging station.

This feedback will also help Council plan for any future expansion of EV charging infrastructure.
