Electric Vehicle Council

Good afternoon Please find attached the EVC’s Vehicle Sales Report for July 2026, with further strong sales for the Tesla Model Y series.

Headline results:

  • Tesla and Polestar recorded total Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) sales* of 4,921 in July 2026 – compared with 1,147 in July 2025. It was the third highest new vehicle sales month of the year after the May and June peaks.
  • On a calendar year basis, combined Tesla and Polestar new car sales have risen to 29,711 – an 80.4% increase over the 16,466 sales recorded for the same period in 2025.
  • The Tesla Model Y family accounted for 4,644 new vehicle sales in July, with the Tesla Model Y L (long-wheelbase, six-seater) reported separately for the first time. The variant has been on sale in Australia since 13 March 2026.
  • New BEV sales growth in July was evenly spread, with Victoria (+500%), Queensland (+371%), NSW (+333%) and ACT (+382%) all more than tripling the figures recorded in July 2025.

* Please note that electric vehicle sales are recorded at the point of delivery, rather than when orders are made.

Please see below comments from EVC CEO, Julie Delvecchio:

“Australians are increasingly choosing electric vehicles – drawn by lower running costs, less exposure to petrol price shocks and a growing range of models.

“Tesla and Polestar’s July numbers are up 80.4% year to date compared with the same period in 2025.

“After a record end-of-financial-year month, we expected softer numbers in July. But the underlying trend remains clear: EV sales are well ahead of last year, consumer choice is expanding, and Australians are responding to lower running costs.

“While the EV market is growing, we still have a long way to go. But it’s great to see so many Aussies choosing cleaner, cheaper cars.”
