Electric Vehicle Fast Chargers Available for Public Use

New electric vehicle chargers have been installed at 50 Learmonth St and are now ready for use by the public. These fast chargers will have a car fully charged in approximately 40 minutes to an hour and a half – nearly 10 times faster than traditional EV chargers. This means electric vehicles will charge in the perfect amount of time for locals and tourists to stop for a meal, coffee or to browse our incredible local businesses.

A geographical gap has been identified in charger availability along the Barwon South West region, with Queenscliffe identified as a priority town to help EV drivers get around Victoria. Putting Queenscliffe on the EV map makes the Borough the next place to be for all electric car owners, businesses and tourists, benefiting our community and our planet. This will mean any EV drivers hoping to pass through the Barwon South West region and needing to charge their car on the way will stop in our historic and beautiful town.

Our EV fast chargers use a user-pay arrangement at a rate of 45c per kilowatt, paid through the Chargefox app. The electricity is renewable energy sourced from wind through a power purchase agreement with the Victorian Energy Collaboration.

Promoting the use of electric vehicles ties in closely with ‘Pillar 4: Sustainable Transport’ in our Climate Emergency Response Plan (CERP). The Victorian Government’s Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) supported the installation of the chargers through the Destination Charging Across Victoria Program and the EV Charging for Council Fleets Program.

These chargers can be found on PlugShare or Chargefox – happy driving!
