This extension will ensure the safe and effective transition of residents’ medication charts and allows services to continue operating under the Transitional Arrangement until 31 March 2027.
The extended timeframe reflects feedback from the aged care sector and software vendors recognising the significant complexity involved in migrating all resident’s medication charts and is intended to mitigate operational risks while supporting continuity of care, maintain accurate prescribing and support seamless care delivery.
The transition to conformant eNRMC offers significant benefits for residents, providers, prescribers and pharmacists by supporting safer and more accountable medication management, improving visibility of prescribed, supplied and administered medicines, reducing administrative burden and strengthening continuity of care. Continued momentum across the aged care sector will help ensure these benefits are realised and embedded in everyday practice, supporting safer medicines use and more efficient workflows for staff and health practitioners.
Next steps
Residential aged care providers and software vendors should continue planning and progressing their transition activities, including system migration, user training, testing and medication chart re-creation to support completion by the revised deadline.
The department will continue to work with vendors and aged care peak bodies during the implementation phase to monitor sector progress, understand any impacts on residential aged care providers and residents, and address issues as they arise.
We are currently updating the eNRMC conformance status tracker and the agency will update their conformance register to reflect the revised conformance and adoption timeframes.
