Emergency situation (PSPA) revoked: Gas leak at Clifton Beach

Police have revoked an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) in relation to a gas leak at Clifton Beach this afternoon.

Officers were called to a shopping centre on Captain Cook Hwy and Endeavour Road around 1pm following reports of a gas leak.

The PSPA was declared at 1.25pm and an exclusion zone was put in place in the immediate vicinity.

The exclusion zone encompassing Endeavour Road, Saxton Street, Eddy Street and Captain Cook Highway has now been reopened and the PSPA declaration revoked at 2.26pm.

Police have declared an emergency situation at a shopping centre in Clifton Beach in Cairns for a gas leak.

The declaration of an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act was made at 1.25pm.

It includes areas within Endeavour Road, Saxton Street, Eddy Street and Captain Cook Highway.

Clifton Beach residents within the exclusion zone are being asked to stay within their homes.

Officers remain on the scene.
