Work on the Church Street upgrade in Gloucester is expected to be completed in November.
Federal Nationals Member for Lyne, Dr David Gillespie, has inspected the works with Mid Coast Council Works Engineer Ruth Hallett.
The $1.5 million project has been funded under the Federal Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund, with the funds announced in the final budget of the former Nationals Government.
Dr Gilespie said while the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund program has been a critical program in bringing forward so many projects across the MidCoast Council area from road upgrades to community infrastructure projects, the Albanese Labor Government has given no commitment for it to continue.
He said the Church Street upgrade, between Phillip Street and Hume Street, would see improvements to drainage efficiency, the removal of gutter bridges, rehabilitated road pavement, a new asphalt surface, and line-marking.
“This is a busy area through town and I know that despite the current inconvenience with the works taking place, local motorists will certainly welcome this project when it is finally completed,” Dr Gillespie said.
Stage one of the project is from Hume Street to the intersection of Bent Street followed by stage two from the intersection of Bent Street to Phillip Street.
