Energy efficiency upgrades for over 1,600 Tasmanian homes

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

Over 1,600 social housing properties in Tasmania will receive energy efficiency upgrades. This is part of a partnership between the Australian Government and Tasmanian Government.

$16.6 million will be jointly invested with around 11% of the state’s social housing properties to receive some kind of upgrade under the program.

This includes both governments matching funds of $8.3 million each ($16.6 million in total) to make homes cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

Social housing properties are some of the most energy inefficient in Australia, with most built more than 20 years ago before minimum build standards.

The Homes Tasmania Energy Efficiency Program will deliver energy upgrades including heat pump hot water systems, insulation, draught proofing, LED lights, and window glazing.

This investment is part of the Government’s $1.7 billion Energy Savings Package, $300 million of which is helping to fund upgrades for up to 60,000 social housing properties across the country.
