Entries open for Children’s Week Art Exhibition

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin is calling for young artists to take part in the annual Children’s Week Art Exhibition, which will feature artwork from local artists showcased in libraries across the municipality.

All types of artwork from individuals or groups between the ages of one and 12 years are welcome, including drawing, painting, printing, collage, sculpture, ceramic, photography and digital art.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the Children’s Week Art Exhibition was a great opportunity for children to experience the thrill of having their art on public display.

“We are proud to host such a wonderful opportunity for young local artists to showcase their artistic abilities and creative pursuits in our libraries,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“This year’s theme – Learning from each other’s stories – is all about cultural celebration and we look forward to seeing various interpretations of the theme on display during October and November,” he said.

To enter, artwork needs to be dropped off between Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 October 2023 to your nearest City of Darwin Library, noting that where the artwork is dropped off is where it will be displayed from Saturday 21 October to Sunday 26 November 2023.

“We were thrilled with the diverse range of entries we received last year, and I am looking forward to seeing the new additions this year,” Mr Vatskalis said.

There will be a range of free events taking place across Darwin during Children’s Week, including the official exhibition launch and free family fun morning and afternoon events.

The exhibition is on display at City of Darwin’s four libraries – Casuarina Library, Darwin City Library, Karama Library and Nightcliff Library.
