Entries open for Festive Flags competition

Townsville City Council is calling all junior artists to help the city get into the Christmas spirit by submitting an entry for this year’s Festive Flags competition.

Entries have opened now to all school-aged children to submit a festive-themed design to feature on one of 20 flags to be displayed across the city during the festive period to help get the city into the Christmas spirit.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said ‘what does Christmas mean to you?’ is the theme for this year’s competition.

“Council is always blown away with the quality and creativity of entries every year we hold this competition,” Cr Greaney said.

“The theme for this year is about letting children explore their creativity and show everyone what Christmas means to them.

“We always receive a lot of great entries every year we hold the competition, and we are excited to see what we will get this year.”

Cr Greaney said Council encouraged schools to get on board and get their students to submit an entry.

“The competition is not just for individual artists, and it is a great way for the whole classroom to get together and start feeling Christmas cheer a little earlier,” she said.

“It’s great to see the excitement on the kids’ faces when they see their artwork on display and how proud they are to tell their family and friends all about it.

“The 20 winning artists will not only get to see their artwork displayed across the city but will also be presented a certificate at November’s Christmas in the City event.”

Entries for the Festive Flag competition close at 5 pm on Friday, 16 September.
