EOIs Open For Sister City Advisory Committee

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin is seeking expressions of interest from community members to join the Sister City Advisory Committee.

The committee assists in developing and enhancing connections between Darwin and cities around the world, as well as informing and supporting City of Darwin’s international relations program.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said being part of the Sister City Advisory Committee was a great way to contribute to making Darwin a creative, connected and inclusive city.

“We are very proud of our Sister City program and we have relationships with cities all over the world, including Indonesia, America, China and Greece,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“Our Sister Cities program aims to enhance cross-cultural understanding, build vibrant and connected communities and generate mutual benefits for both cities.

“Our 2022 Darwin International Virtual Trade Show was recently awarded the National Tourism and Trade Award from Sister Cities Australia, and the Darwin International Dragon Boat Festival was also recognised by the Chamber of Commerce, with both events guided by the committee.

“The committee supports Council’s approach to cultural, community and economic development and committee members can make a real impact to the Sister Cities program,” he said.

City of Darwin’s international relations program generates access to international markets and commercial opportunities, as well as encouraging international students and tourists to visit Darwin.

The committee has 10 members, including City of Darwin Elected Members, with members appointed for two-year terms.

City of Darwin currently has seven Sister Cities: Ambon and Denpasar, Indonesia; Anchorage, USA; Dili, Timor Leste; Haikou, China; Kalymnos, Greece; and Milikapiti, NT.

Applicants for the committee should have experience in local industry and a knowledge of international business opportunities.

Applications close Wednesday 15 May 2024.
