EPA lays charges over tyre stockpile

EPA Victoria has laid three charges against ELT Recycling Australia alleging that in October 2021 the company stored in excess of 5000 EPU (Equivalent Passenger Units, the equivalent of standard car tyres) of waste tyres without an operating licence and subsequently:

– Failed to comply with an EPA Improvement notice requiring it to implement an inventory management system to manage its waste inventory onsite, and

– Failed to comply with an EPA improvement notice requiring it to engage a suitably qualified expert to produce a Fire Risk Assessment for the premises

The breaches are criminal offences under the Environment Protection Act 2017.
