Estimated $250,000 worth of surfboards destroyed by fire in Collaroy

Homes and businesses were evacuated after a factory containing surf boards caught fire on Sydney’s Northern Beaches last night.

About 7.50pm on Thursday 10 January 2019, emergency services were called to a factory fire on Anzac Avenue, Collaroy.

Fire & Rescue NSW officers attended to the blaze which was extinguished about 10.45pm.

An estimated 100 residents from nearby houses, units, and businesses were evacuated as a precaution while the fire was extinguished. No one was injured.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced inquiries.

A number of surfboards inside the factory were destroyed by the fire, with an estimated damage bill of $250,000.

As inquiries continue, the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
