Every day of Term 2 matters

Roger Jaensch, Minister for Education, Children and Youth

About 60,000 Tasmanian Government school students walked through the front gates today for the first day of Term 2.

Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, visited students at Andrews Creek Primary School at Wesley Vale to mark the beginning of the new term.

“It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces at Andrews Creek Primary School today,” Minister Jaensch said.

“Education is the most powerful tool we can give young people to take control of their future lives and opportunities. Active participation in learning is essential for all young people.

“Earlier this year, the Every school day matters campaign launched and the start of Term 2 is a great time to remind our school communities about the importance of attending school every day.”

The campaign highlights the importance of regular school attendance and reminds parents and carers that school is the best place for their children to be learning, helping to build their social skills, relationships and confidence.

“We look forward to seeing our learners at school every school day this year because every school day matters,” he said.

“A child missing even one day a fortnight from Kinder to Year 12 is missing out on a year and half of their education, which they never get back.”

The Rockliff Liberal Government is providing students with the education they need to get the most out of life, with those actively engaged in education benefiting most from what’s on offer.
