Extensive clean-up ongoing following super storm

Sunshine Coast Council continues to work with affected residents to assess damage and clear debris following the recent super cell storm which caused major damage in parts of the region.

Mayor Mark Jamieson praised the efforts of council staff in responding to issues in storm affected areas and requests made by members of the Sunshine Coast community.

“I take my hat off to our crews whose response has been exemplary, and who have been on the ground since Sunday’s storm,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“Together with our contractors, including those called in to give our crews extra help, council’s response teams have managed one of the swiftest storm clean-ups I’ve seen, clearing the majority of storm debris by Wednesday, 20 November.

“Our staff are truly at their best in these emergency situations and our community should be assured that they are in good hands.

“Similarly, I also want to praise our community for their united reaction following this disaster.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and assistance as our crews continue to work on the clean-up.”

Council crews and contractors continue to respond to the more than 350 calls received since Monday morning.

Any residents seeking assistance relating to private property are reminded to contact the State Emergency Service on 132 500 or their insurance provider.

Impacted Sunshine Coast residents can take advantage of free green waste disposal on offer until close of business Sunday, November 24 at council’s waste recovery centres.

Residents are requested to bring identification showing proof of address, and please plan ahead, as there may be longer than usual waits due to high demand, especially on the weekend.
