Extortion and assault charges at New Farm, QLD

Police have today charged a man and a woman after another man was allegedly held against his will at New Farm on Wednesday, October 30.

Just after midnight, a 33-year-old man attended a residence after meeting a 49-year-old woman on a dating application.

A short time later, the woman allegedly demanded money from the man.

When the man didn’t comply, another man allegedly entered the room and assaulted the 33-year-old man and held him against his will.

The woman also allegedly assaulted the man before the pair forced the man to undertake an online transaction.

The pair then allegedly stole his bank card and withdrew a sum of money.

A 49-year-old woman and 22-year-old man have been charged with one count each of extortion with intent to gain benefit with threat of detriment, deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm and possessing dangerous drugs.

They will both appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow, November 1.
