Facelift complete for historic Fawkner Park

Melbourne’s historic Fawkner Park has been given a facelift, thanks to a $1.5 million upgrade by the City of Melbourne.

Work officially wrapped up over the weekend, with improvements made to the Pasley Street North entrance, along with a new multi-purpose sports court and playground, upgraded landscaping and lighting works.

The project will improve access and safety for the local community, including the large number of South Yarra Primary School students, teachers and parents who use the Pasley Street North entrance.

The new multi-purpose sports court is a significant upgrade from the previous basketball court facilities, and is designed for both basketball and netball, as well as a range of other informal play and recreation activities.

New pathways have also been installed to improve pedestrian and cyclist movement through the area.

The City of Melbourne planted 21 new trees and improved soil conditions as part of the project, increasing the park’s biodiversity while retaining all existing mature trees.

Storm water drainage works will also reduce the impact of rain and flood events and resolve long-standing drainage issues.

The $1.5 million project was delivered as part of the Fawkner Park Masterplan.
