Faith leaders from more than five religious traditions in Western Australia will gather at St George’s Cathedral to say that the Federal Government’s Budget, as a statement of our national priorities, does not adequately address the climate emergency we are facing.
Representatives present will include:
The Right Reverend Kay Goldsworthy AO, Archbishop of the Anglican Diocese of Perth
Moderator of the Uniting Church Western Australia, Rev Steve Francis
President of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, Dr Rateb Jneid
Buddhist monk Ajahn Brahm, Abbot of Bodhinyana Monastery
Catholic nun, Sr Margaret Keane, Sisters of St Joseph
The group will gather to address the media at 10:15am, Wednesday April 3, 2019 at St George’s Cathedral, in Perth.
The religious leaders wish to communicate that Governments, at both State and Federal levels, need to be doing more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In the lead up to the 2019 Federal Election, and as the State Government considers new measures to mitigate the disturbing increase in greenhouse gas emissions in Western Australia, the religious leaders will be expressing their concern that not enough is being done.
