Family-Friendly Boost For Mansfield Cup

  • Minister for Racing

Top racing and enhanced family entertainment will be on offer at the Mansfield Cup in April, thanks to a funding boost provided by the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Racing Martin Pakula was at the Mansfield racecourse today where he announced a $20,000 allocation from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to support the popular Mansfield and District Racing Club fixture set for Saturday, 4 April.

The Mansfield Cup and the Mansfield Diamond – with prizemoney and trophies of $31,050, Australia’s richest picnic race – are stand-out races on the card.

There will be plenty of off-track entertainment including a DJ and live music, Fashions on the Field, car show and shine, complimentary race books, a free guest ticket for every young member ticket purchased, and subsidised dining packages.

With a local radio and Facebook competition giving away 100 entry passes, and free bus shuttle services running from the Mansfield township, the day provides the complete package of racing and entertainment at a reasonable price.

Since December 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $344,000 to support 10 thoroughbred racing events and nine infrastructure projects for the Mansfield and District Racing Club.

The thoroughbred racing industry in regional Victoria generates more than $700 million for the economy and helps sustain more than 6,100 full-time-equivalent jobs.

As noted by Minister for Racing Martin Pakula

“The Mansfield races provide a fantastic day out for the whole family and we’re happy to be able to support the Cup Day program.”

“This is an important time for local businesses affected by the fallout from the bushfires, so maybe book your accommodation in the north east now and consider making a long weekend out of it.”

As noted by Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes

“The Mansfield Cup is a red-letter day on the north east racing calendar – the offerings for all of the family this year shape as being the best yet.”

As noted by Mansfield and District Racing Club president Leanne Backwell

“We thank the Victorian Government for its generous support of our Cup Day program. I encourage everyone to come along to what promises to be a fun-filled family day of racing.”
