Far North property crime crackdown sees 500 arrested under Operation Yankee Forge

Far North police are continuing to target property offenders causing harm in the community, charging 501 people with 1228 offences as part of Operation Yankee Forge.

Operation Yankee Forge launched on 27 February to target high-harm and high-volume offences, including unlawful use of motor vehicles, unlawful entry and robbery.

On 7 June, PD DJ and the Tactical Crime Squad tracked three teenagers after a stolen Nissan X-trail was subject to a tyre deflation device.

A 16-year-old Bentley Park boy and a 17-year-old Edmonton girl were charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A second 17-year-old Edmonton girl was charged with stealing and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

On 8 June, a 17-year-old Whitfield boy who allegedly fled from the vehicle was located hiding in a closet.

He was charged with entering a dwelling, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

The state-wide operation is a locally led and centrally coordinated, deploying specialist capabilities when and where they are needed most.

Far North District Officer Chief Superintendent Kevin Fitzgibbon said building on learnings from the first four months of the operation, police will continue to be agile and responsive to community needs and target high harm offending, in high crime locations.

“We understand the harm that property offending causes to our community, and every person living, working and visiting the Far North deserves to feel safe in their homes,” Chief Superintendent Fitzgibbon said.

“Everyday Queenslanders can expect to see more proactive policing activities, more high visibility patrols and more engagement in their community, as part of our efforts to crackdown on offending.
