Information sharing and collaboration were the key elements of discussion at the February Queensland biosecurity Roundtable.

Held online and in person at our Cairns regional office, federal and state biosecurity representatives discussed how to build on surveillance activities in far north Queensland.

Representatives from Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy (NAQS) and Department of Agriculture and Fisheries – Biosecurity Queensland QDAF-BQ) Northern Australia Biosecurity Strategy (NABS) and National Border Surveillance (NBS) shared current operating models and surveillance design to help determine: target prioritisation and alignment, ways to increase data sharing and communication on operational priorities and public awareness activities.

NAQS Plant Policy Officer, Leigh Cuttell said: “The primary purpose of the meeting was to discover how we can better integrate NAQS and QDAF-BQ surveillance to ensure we have a thorough and effective surveillance system in place.”.

Proposals are being considered by NAQS and QDAF-BQ.
