Federal Election result

Jeremy Rockliff,Premier

The Tasmanian Liberal Government will work collaboratively with the incoming Federal Government in the best interests of all Tasmanians. The Tasmanian people would expect nothing less, particularly in such a challenging global environment.

I have reached out to the incoming Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, to congratulate him on his success. I will be writing to him ensure he is aware of Tasmania’s priorities and where the Commonwealth needs to increase its focus, such as in Health. I will also be seeking assurances that all commitments made to the Tasmanian people are delivered in full.

While we have seen a change of government federally, Tasmania noticeably bucked the trend with an increased Liberal vote. I sincerely thank and congratulate all our Liberal candidates in every seat across Tasmania.

Well done to Gavin Pearce in my electorate of Braddon, the people strongly endorsed his re-election to the Federal Parliament and I congratulate him.

While I acknowledge that the counting of the votes isn’t over, Bridget Archer looks likely to retain Bass and I’m not surprised. Not only is Bridget a tremendous person, she has worked tirelessly in her electorate to get better outcomes for the people of Tasmania.

Susie Bower’s very strong vote could see a third Liberal seat in Tasmania and I applaud her hard work throughout the election campaign.

I pay tribute to Scott Morrison and his Coalition team on guiding our country through some of the most difficult times in generations. Given the massive disruption of the pandemic, Australia is in a very strong economic position, which is a testament to the very capable leadership and management of the Liberal Coalition Government.
