Federation Council is celebrating International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) on Friday 3 December 2021.

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is held on 3 December each year.

IDPwD is a United Nations observed day celebrated internationally. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

IDPwD is an opportunity for us to make positive changes to the lives of the 4.4 million Australians with disability.

This year’s theme for IDPwD 2021 is ‘Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world’.

Federation Council General Manager, Adrian Butler said, “It is important we start a conversation about the issues experienced by people with disability, celebrate their achievements and encourage inclusion within our community.”

At its January Council Meeting, Council will consider the Draft Disability, Inclusion and Access Plan 2022-2026, which if endorsed, will go out for public exhibition and feedback later this month. All residents are encouraged to get involved with the feedback process, to help Council live up to this year’s IDPwD theme.

Federation Council is proud to support IDPwD Day, and acknowledge its staff and volunteers with disability, as well as the dedicated Disability Access and Inclusion Committee who provide feedback and advice to Council on how to improve access and inclusion for people with disability in the Federation region.
