Hobsons Bay’s cultural and natural history will be celebrated with Heritage Hobsons Bay during the National Trust Heritage Festival in April.

Locals and visitors alike will be able to see Williamstown in a new way after dark with a guided projection tour, rediscover lost pathways at the Williamstown Botanic Gardens pine tree collection, discover the stunning windows of Altona’s St Eanswythe, share Sea Flowers and Lake Stories at Cherry Lake, step back in time on a guided heritage walk in Altona, Newport or Spotswood, and much more.

The Heritage Hobsons Bay festival, from April 17-30, forms part of the month-long National Trust Australian Heritage Festival. There will be more than 25 events across Hobsons Bay, including performances, exhibitions, tours, discussion panels, film screenings and art installations. Most events are free.

This year’s theme is ‘Shared Stories’ and the events aim to build deeper connections across the community by sharing tales of our rich and diverse history.

Council has partnered with community groups, local historians, producers and volunteers to put this program together.

“Hobsons Bay is an incredible part of Melbourne. We have beautiful and interesting heritage buildings, and our history is full of amazing stories of courage, perseverance, innovation and industry,” Hobsons Bay Mayor, Cr Tony Briffa, said.

“This festival explores those stories and will give locals and visitors a greater appreciation of how our city has become what it is today.

“It is so important we remember and celebrate our heritage, and honour the people and stories that have helped develop Hobsons Bay into the diverse and fascinating place we live in.”
