- Diwali set to attract huge crowds with celebrations happening across the State
- McGowan Government supports Diwali events with more than $123,000
Western Australia will light up with fireworks, dancing and a kaleidoscope of colour as Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is celebrated in spectacular style.
The Indian festival, which symbolises the victory of good over evil, has become one of WA’s most popular celebrations with thousands of people from all backgrounds attending events across the State.
The McGowan Government is proud to have funded many of the large celebrations taking place around Western Australia, including:
- the Diwali Mela 2018 at Claremont Showgrounds on Saturday November 3 and Sunday November 4, organised by the Indian Society of Western Australia;
- the Swan Festival of Lights at Supreme Court Gardens from Friday November 9 to Sunday November 11, organised by Annalakshmi and Saraswati Mahavidhyalaya;
- the Diwali Mela 2018 at Goldfields Baptist College on Saturday November 10, organised by the Indian Association of Goldfields WA Inc;
- the Festival of Lights at Geraldton foreshore on Saturday November 10, organised by the Midwest Multicultural Association; and
- the Bunbury Diwali 2018-Festival of Lights, taking place on Saturday November 17, organised by the South West Indian Group.
Parliament House will also be floodlit in orange for Diwali and to recognise the achievements and contributions of Western Australia’s Indian communities.
