Logan residents will be given the chance to have their say on a planned change to disability parking regulations.
Drivers who illegally park in disabled bays in the City of Logan will risk receiving a higher fine in the future.
Council has resolved to amend its local laws to increase the fine from $266 (two penalty units) to $533 (four penalty units), in line with changes to State legislation.
The fines will come into effect upon the completion of the required local law-making process.
Council is committed to enforcing the appropriate use of disability parking spaces under the Access and Inclusion Plan 2019-2022.
Council’s parking officers monitor disability parking bays on roads, on Council property and at some large shopping centres.
Queensland Police may also issue fines to people who park in disability parking bays without a permit.
The State Government said the fine increase was designed to be a strong deterrent against illegal parking and to ensure disability parking bays remain available for those who genuinely need them.

After the public consultation period closes, a future report will be prepared and submitted to Council to confirm the outcomes and finalise the process.
