Firearm located, man charged following vehicle stop – Port Macquarie

A man has been charged with drug and firearm offences following a vehicle stop at Port Macquarie overnight.

About 12.40am (Tuesday 15 August 2023), officers from Mid North Coast Police District were patrolling the Port Macquarie area when they stopped a Nissan Pulsar on Clifton Drive and spoke to the driver – a 29-year-old woman – and her 39-year-old male passenger.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located and seized a firearm, ammunition, cutting implements, and an amount of methamphetamine, cannabis, steroids, and unknown tablets.

The passenger was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he was charged with four counts of possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug – indictable quantity, possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and custody of knife in public place.

The Kempsey man was refused bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court today (Tuesday 15 August 2023).
