More than 10,000 people are expected to line the Lake Wendouree foreshore for the free fireworks event this Sunday, with many more watching on from their homes.
The fireworks will start at 9.30pm on Sunday, January 14, complimenting a bumper week two line up of the City of Ballarat’s Summer Sundays in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens.
Local pyrotechnician Matthew Batty from Northern Fireworks is back once again to put on the dazzling display, which will feature a total 5039 overall shots including 725 aerial shells and 4314 ground effects.
The event is one of the highlights of the city’s summer calendar.
City of Ballarat Deputy Mayor, Cr Peter Eddy said the 15-minute display will be a sight to behold as the Ballarat sky is transformed into multiple layers of height, colour, and effects.
“It’s fantastic that even those who can’t make it in person can still watch the dazzling display from most homes across the city,” he said.
“Local pyrotechnician Matthew Batty really is so talented, creating such a stunning show with both small and large pyrotechnics.
“This event truly adds to the city’s vibrant summer calendar. Fingers crossed for good weather so everyone can enjoy the Fireworks Spectacular!”
Residents are encouraged to take care of their pets during the fireworks display and keep them indoors if they are likely to be spooked by loud noise.
The Fireworks Spectacular is subject to weather.
Important information
• The fireworks will be unable to go ahead if weather conditions are unsafe or advised by CFA.
• In the event that the Fireworks Spectacular is unable to proceed on Sunday, January 14 they will be launched the following night on Monday, January 15 if weather conditions allow.
• The City of Ballarat will notify residents if the event is postponed via:
o Announcements over the PA at the Summer Sundays event
o Social media posts on City of Ballarat, Summer Sundays and Ballarat In The Know channels
o Signage and marshals around Lake Wendouree
• Public access to the end of the rowing course will be restricted from 9am on Friday 12 January until 11.59pm on Sunday 14 January to enable the safe launch of the fireworks.
• Lake Wendouree will be closed for all waterway activities from 10am until 11.59pm on Sunday 14 January 2024.
• There will be no parking restrictions around Lake Wendouree, however, please take care with the anticipated increased volume of traffic in the precinct.
