Artists exhibiting in Ephemera Seaside Sculptures have been given the opportunity to compete for an acquisitive prize of $90,000 for the first time this year.
The lucrative prize is being supported by the Queensland Government’s Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport.
Mayor Jenny Hill said this new prize would help Townsville City Council add to its public art collection.
“Ephemera Seaside Sculptures is a much-loved art installation along the Strand foreshore, and members of the public absolutely love visiting the works while they are on show every two years,” Cr Hill said.
“Adding an acquisitive prize to the 20th anniversary Ephemera Seaside Sculptures this year means Council will own the winning piece of art and will be able to install it permanently on the Strand.
“I’m sure that the artworks being entered into this year’s Ephemera Seaside Sculptures will live up to the incredible pieces in previous years’ exhibitions.”
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the exhibition was going by a new name this year.
“For 20 years this exhibition has been called Strand Ephemera, but this year we’re revamping it with the new name Ephemera Seaside Sculptures,” Cr Greaney said.
“This name change is just one way to help keep the seaside exhibition fresh and exciting as we mark a milestone year in its history.”
Ephemera Seaside Sculptures runs from 17 – 25 July at the Strand.
