The State Government has welcomed agricultural scientist and farmer Kelly Pearce to the helm of the WA Agricultural Research Collaboration.
The Collaboration between research bodies, universities and the Western Australian Government aims to spur the next generation of advances in the State’s agriculture and food sector.
Dr Pearce, an agricultural scientist with more than 20 years of experience in industry and academia, has been appointed the inaugural Collaboration Director.
A grain and sheep producer from Yealering, she has significant board experience, a strong background in mixed farming research, development and innovation, and involvement with grower groups.
The Collaboration brings together the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Australia’s national science agency CSIRO, Grower Group Alliance, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and The University of Western Australia.
It recently launched its first research project, a $6 million initiative to grow future beef production options in the State’s north, by better connecting the diverse Ord River Irrigation Area and the long-running pastoral sector.
