First look at new METRONET Byford Station

  • Development application for new METRONET Byford Station now open for public comment
  • Designs for the new Byford Station reveal modern and attractive amenities for the community to enjoy, including covered platforms, secure bicycle shelters and a kiosk
  • Public comment period will run until 7 September 2023

Designs for the new Byford Station, which will be built as part of the METRONET Byford Rail Extension, have been released for public comment and residents are now invited to have their say.

The new station will include three platforms to service both the Armadale Line and Australind passengers, and a bus interchange with seven stands to support connecting services.

The station complex will accommodate about 400 parkingbays, including ACROD bays and secure shelters for around 100 bicycles, support community safety with bright lighting and CCTV, as well as provide space for meeting and recreation.

Public art has been incorporated to reflect the area’s local identity, native flora and fauna, and Aboriginal culture.

This follows community and stakeholder engagement earlier this year, where residents had a say on safety, access, and their connection to public spaces.

This new station will be a catalyst for development around the station area, and support the growing suburb of Byford.

Once complete, the station will give Byford and surrounding residents a seamless connection to Perth in a 42-minute journey with a two-zone fare cap.

The community can view the proposed designs and comment on the Development Application until 7 September 2023.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“This new station will give local businesses a boost and spark opportunities for growth in the area for years to come.

“Included in the design is well-designed lighting and CCTV, which will support community safety in and around the station area.

“The proposed design will give the community modern new facilities and connect Perth’s south-east to the CBD for a quick, reliable and cost-effective journey.

As stated by Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones:

“This is a really exciting time for Byford and our surrounding communities as the new station comes closer to life.

“The designs look fantastic and reflect significant State investment, which will support our area’s growth and development into the future.”
