Firsthand experience of how blood saves lives

We’re now more than two weeks into the Emergency Services Blood Challenge and CFA is in a strong fourth position.

Firsthand experience of how blood saves lives

Chiltern Fire Brigade 1st Lieutenant Shannon Beacom donating plama at the Wangaratta donor centre.

At CFA, the challenge presents a unique opportunity for a bit of friendly competition with our fellow emergency services. Each blood donation made quoting the CFA Lifeblood team counts towards CFA’s overall tally until the challenge ends on 31 August.

So far CFA members have made 168 donations saving 504 lives, not far off Victoria Police who are leading with 219 donations.

Chiltern Fire Brigade 1st Lieutenant Shannon Beacom has been donating since 2015 and has already taken part in the challenge.

“I’ve been to many accidents since being part of CFA and seen firsthand how blood infusions can save lives.

“If I can do my part to help supply blood and plasma for treatment of anyone who needs it I find it such a rewarding feeling.

Shannon said his experience with donating is always pleasant.

“I’d encourage everyone to donate, meeting new and different people who donate is fantastic and the staff are lovely to deal with.”
