Community members have again opened their hearts and their pantries in the spirit of giving to support Wagga Wagga City Library’s recent Christmas Food Appeal.
The Appeal was launched in November last year and finished on Christmas Eve with another overwhelming response from the community which has supported the annual event for more than 20 years.
Representatives from the Salvation Army this week dropped into the Library to collect a van load of donations which was dropped off at the library leading up to Christmas.
Manager Library Services Claire Campbell said the generosity of people in the community was once again greatly appreciated.
“Every year the generosity shown towards the appeal is astounding,” Ms Campbell said.
“This is about giving everyone a chance to contribute and to make a difference to someone in need.
We would like to thank everyone who supported the Appeal and assure them that the Salvation Army will now distribute these food supplies to community members in need of support.”
The Appeal was originally started as “Food for Fines” which gave community members the opportunity to pay off their library fines with a donation of non-perishable food. From 1 July last year, the library stopped having fines for overdue book returns but the tradition of the Christmas Food Appeal has continued.
