Food delivery rider robbed of bike; two men charged, NSW

Two men will appear in court today after allegedly robbing a food delivery rider of his bike in Mt Druitt yesterday.

About 3.45pm (Sunday 3 May 2020), a delivery rider, a man aged 20, was on his way to collect food when he was approached by a man on Dawson Mall.

The man stood in front of the rider’s bike, grabbed the handlebars and sat on the front wheel to prevent the rider from moving before threatening to punch him if he did not get off the bike.

A second man also appeared and allegedly threatened the man with violence.

The first man then grabbed the rider’s mobile phone that was mounted on the bike and allegedly threw it on the ground, causing the screen to crack. He then allegedly grabbed the rider by the jacket and pulled him off the bike before throwing an empty beer can at him and chasing him a short distance.

At this time, the second man picked up the bike and allegedly rode away in the direction of Mt Druitt Railway Station.

Shortly after, officers attached to the Police Transport Command spoke to two men, aged 25 and 26,

on Beames Avenue before they ran away.

Police pursued them on foot for a short distance before they were arrested and taken to Mt Druitt Police Station.

The 25-year-old, from Fairfield West, was charged with robbery in company.

The 26-year-old, from Mt Druitt, was also charged with robbery in company.

Both men were refused bail to appear in Penrith Local Court today (Monday 4 May 2020).
