Foreshore upgrade on Crown land supports Shoal Bay

One of the Hunter’s favourite destinations, Shoal Bay, has been given a tourism boost following a $700,000 upgrade to Crown land on its foreshore by Port Stephens Council with support from the NSW Government.

The major overall has come just in time for summer and includes installation of new amenities, a shared pathway, landscaping and park furniture, providing a perfect place for families and friends to gather.

The improvements will provide a boost for Port Stephens tourism as NSW regions open back up to Greater Sydney from 1 November.

A new local restaurant that is about to open up near the foreshore already reports more than 5,000 forward dining bookings.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer said the improvements make Shoal Bay an even more attractive place for locals and visitors.

“These works improve our town centre and make our place more vibrant, liveable and accessible for all,” he said.

“The new amenities, shared pathway, landscaping and park furniture provide the perfect place for families to picnic while enjoying the incredible scenery of the Tomaree Headland and the port.”

The foreshore upgrades were funded by Port Stephens Council with a $110,000 contribution from the NSW Government’s Crown Reserves Improvement Fund.

The fund supports upgrades and maintenance of Crown reserves like Shoal Hay foreshore to support community recreation, tourism and local businesses.
