A man will face court today charged by Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad detectives over the alleged sexual abuse of a number of former students at schools across Sydney in the 1970s and 1980s.
In March, police received information relating to multiple allegations of sexual abuse of young male students and schools and camps across Sydney by a former brother.
The matter was referred to the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad for further investigation.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 71-year-old man at Taree Police Station, about 12.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 10 November 2021).
He was charged with seven counts of indecent assault on male, sexual assault without consent – have sexual intercourse with person aged under 16 years, assault and commit act of indecency under 16, procure indecent act with male, and indecent act with person under 16 years.
Police will allege in court that the man sexually abused six male students – then aged between 12 and 14 – while they were in his care as a brother and teacher between 1973 and 1985.
He was refused bail to appear at Forster Local Court today (Thursday 11 November 2021).
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
