Former correctional officer charged after firearm offences at Lithgow, NSW

A former Corrective Services NSW officer has been charged following an investigation into alleged firearm offences in the state’s Central Tablelands.

Detectives from Chifley Police Area Command commenced an investigation following an incident at a Lithgow home on Wednesday 15 April 2020, where a firearm was allegedly produced and pointed at a 57-year-old woman.

Following inquiries, detectives attended a home in Lithgow about 2pm on Friday 17 April 2020 and spoke to the male occupant.

During a search of the home, investigators inspected and seized nine firearms, ammunition, and five sets of handcuffs.

The 66-year-old man was arrested and taken to Lithgow Police Station where he was charged with 11 offences including,

  • Use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence,
  • Possess unauthorised prohibited firearm,
  • Not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm,
  • Category C, D or H licensee not comply with storage needs,
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (x5)
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (personal)
  • Common assault

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Lithgow Local Court today (Thursday 18 June 2020).
