Four charged after allegedly assaulting off-duty police officer – Chifley

Four people have been charged after an off-duty police officer was allegedly assaulted in a cemetery in Chifley yesterday.

Shortly after 4pm (Thursday 7 September 2023), emergency services were called to a cemetery on Bunnerong Road, Chifley, following reports of a brawl.

Police have been told an off-duty officer was attempting to check on a woman’s welfare, when he was approached by two men and three women who began assaulting him. Another off-duty officer contacted police; she was uninjured.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the off-duty officer at the scene for facial injuries. He was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in a stable condition. He has since been discharged.

Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command arrested four people – a 16-year-old boy, two women, aged 19 and 22, and a 25-year-old man. They were taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

They were all charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s).

The 16-year-old boy was also charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty. He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Friday 8 September 2023).

The 22-year-old woman was also charged with two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm. She was refused bail to appear before Waverly Local Court today (Friday 8 September 2023).

The 25-year-old man was also charged with hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He along with the 19-year-old woman were refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court today (Friday 8 September 2023).
