The Victorian Government has today appointed four new Magistrates, adding their invaluable experience and expertise to the state’s busiest Court.
Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes congratulated Caroline Boult, Timothy Greenway, Samantha Poulter and Robert Stary on their appointments to the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria.
Caroline Boult brings over 20 years of experience practising criminal law and has been a senior solicitor and advocate for the Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) since 2005. Her experience includes appearing in the Magistrates’, Children’s, Coroners, County and Supreme courts.
Before joining the OPP she was in private practice as a criminal defence lawyer. Ms Boult was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2000 and holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from La Trobe University.
Timothy Greenway has been a member of the Victorian Bar since 2010 and has extensive experience practising across commercial, administrative and quasi-criminal jurisdictions.
During his career, he has had many successful and notable cases, while also mentoring undergraduate students for more than a decade. He was admitted to legal practice in 2008 and holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Monash University.
Samantha Poulter has worked as a barrister since 2008, across the Supreme, County and Magistrates’ courts. She has worked as a duty lawyer at Victoria Legal Aid from 2007 to 2008, and has extensive previous experience in community corrections and justice policy.
Ms Poulter holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of Legal Studies and an Honours Degree in Bachelor of Legal Studies from La Trobe University.
Robert Stary was a principal lawyer and partner at Stary Norton Halphen Lawyers for 26 years. Before this, he played a vital role in Victoria’s legal and philanthropic community, particularly in the west as a founding committee member of the Western Suburbs Legal Service, and as a committee member and Chair of both Westadd Alcohol and Drug Agency and the Footscray Community Legal Centre.
Mr Stary was admitted to legal practice in the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1981, holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne, and has been a Law Institute of Victoria accredited criminal law specialist since 1995.
