Fourth man charged over home invasions, high-speed crash and carjackings in Sydney’s south west

Detectives have charged a fourth man with nine offences over his alleged role in two home invasions, a high-speed crash, and two carjackings in Sydney’s south west last month.

Police will allege in court four men, armed with firearms and poles, forced entry to a Fairfield home at 7am on Saturday 9 March 2019 and a Bonnyrigg home at 8.15am the same day, before assaulting the occupants.

Shortly after, a white Mercedes crashed into another car on the M5 at Moorebank and caught alight.

Following the crash, two men allegedly carjacked a Nissan Navara 4WD at gunpoint.

The Nissan was later located at a Moorebank service station after a second vehicle – a yellow Holden Commodore – was carjacked.

The State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad took carriage of the investigation and established Strike Force Linoleum to investigate the incidents.

Three men, aged 26, 28 and 39, have been charged and remain before the courts.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators, with the assistance of tactical operatives, arrested a 37-year-old man at a unit in Ermington about 12.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 2 April 2019), before he was taken to Granville Police Station.

Detectives executed a search warrant at the property, where they seized cash and mobile phones to undergo forensic examination.

The man was charged with three counts of special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – weapon, two counts of aggravated assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle-armed with weapon, two counts of aggravated take/drive motor vehicle with person in/on it-armed with weapon, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and knowingly participate in criminal group assist crime.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Wednesday 3 April 2019).
