Free Micro-Chipping At Dog Day Out

A free micro chipping event is being hosted by City of Darwin at Jingili Water Park on Saturday 10 August from 9am to 12noon.

The Dog Day Out aims to promote animal registration and offers pet owners the opportunity to learn about animal training and socialising, caring for pets and dog obedience.

The event will provide fun and entertainment for the whole family with a gold coin donation BBQ and free face painting and jumping castle.

Pet owners will have the opportunity to speak directly with experts and service providers to discuss all aspects of their pets’ health and well-being, including Kujos Pet Minding, Darwin Dog Obedience Club, Top End Rehoming Group and the RSPCA.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis invited members of the public to the event “City of Darwin encourages all pet owners to register their dogs and this free micro chipping event aims to highlight the importance and benefits of registration.”

“The Dog Day Out will provide an opportunity register pets or update current registration details,” Lord Mayor concluded.

The benefits of pet registration are many – lost pets can quickly be reunited with owners, free loan of bark collars and cat traps, access to animal education officers, home visits to assist with behaviour issues and a Pet Care help line.

Microchipping usually costs between $35 and $75 and is offered free to pet owners registering their animals at the Dogs Day Out. All pets must be micro chipped in order to be registered and de-sexed animals have nearly $100 deducted from the cost of annual registration.
