Free TAFE plan will help rebuild key industries and get people into jobs

Tasmanian Labor

Today’s announcement by Federal Labor Leader Anthony Albanese of 465,000 free TAFE places in areas of skills shortage is welcome for the thousands of Australians looking for work.

Shadow Minister for TAFE Josh Willie said Federal Labor’s plan showed the commitment the party has to education.

“A Federal Labor Government will invest in the skills Australia needs to drive future economic growth,” Mr Willie said.

“The policy announced today is good for jobs, good for people looking to train or retrain and good for businesses.

“The Free TAFE policy will help rebuild industries that have been hit hard by the pandemic and train people to meet current and future needs, including the areas of hospitality, tourism, child care and disability care.”

Mr Willie said Labor and the Liberals could not be more different when it comes to education.

“While Federal Labor announce an ambitious TAFE plan to help Australia recover from the pandemic the State Liberals have pushed legislation through the house that will dismantle TasTAFE.

“Anthony Albanese’s plan will help address industries where there currently aren’t enough skilled workers.

“In addition to TAFE, a Federal Labor Government will boost university funding to help more Australians get into good jobs.

“Today’s announcement by Mr Albanese is welcomed by Tasmanian Labor. Labor will always support TAFE.”
