The Property Council of Australia has welcomed ‘Freedom Day’ as another step in the right direction for the state’s economic recovery and reactivation of CBDs.
NSW Executive Director Luke Achterstraat said today was a proud day not only for the state but for the nation as we embarked on a new stage of recovery.
“After over 100 days of lockdown we mark the re-emergence of normality throughout our lives and livelihoods,” Mr Achterstraat said.
“Today is a day of optimism where we can return to our favourite CBDs, restaurants, pubs, cafes and shops with our friends and loved ones and embrace those experiences we have sorely missed over these past four months.
“After a grim winter, we can now bounce back for a festive summer and enjoy events, live sport and arts and culture and enjoy the freedoms we have earnt through our successful vaccination rates.”
Mr Achterstraat said New South Wales residents should be applauded for achieving some of the fastest vaccination rates in the world.
“The residents of NSW have rolled up their sleeves to ensure our state can lead the economic recovery we need following multiple lockdowns across Australia. The NSW property and construction industry has set a cracking pace in this race and should also be recognised,” he said.
“NSW is projected to surpass the 80 per cent fully vaccinated rate between 20 – 25 October, within two weeks of Freedom Day.
“This is a strong reflection of our state’s desire to get back to doing the things we value: collaborating, socialising and exploring our cities and regions, both their outdoor experiences and in the buildings that make our state great.
“However, recoveries do not happen overnight and further pieces in the puzzle must be announced in the coming days and weeks.
“We expect a steady flow, not a flood, of workers back into the CBD. With billions of dollars of investment and thousands of jobs reliant on the Sydney and Parramatta CBDs, office owners are well acquainted with the importance of continuing to provide safe workplaces.”
