The Autumn 2020 fuel reduction burn season has been one of the most successful since the Government’s nation leading Fuel Reduction Program began, better preparing our state for bushfire risk this coming summer.
Over the season, we have conducted 146 fuel reduction burns, covering over 27,000 hectares in strategic locations across the state to protect Tasmanian communities, infrastructure and our natural assets in high bushfire risk areas.
Tasmania is leading the nation when it comes to taking a tenure blind strategic risk-based approach to fuel reduction, which includes both public and private land.
All staff and land owners who contributed to the Program are to be congratulated on their role in reducing bushfire risk in Tasmania.
The Program is now in its sixth year of operation and during this time, 773 strategic bushfire risk reduction activities have been completed.
This year we have further increased our capabilities, bolstered our nation leading Fuel Reduction Program, invested in more resourcing, worked with private landholders to actively manage their bushfire risk and we will introduce legislation to make it easier to reduce fuel loads.
This investment demonstrates the Tasmanian Government’s priority which is to keep Tasmanians safe and continue our nation leading approach to fire and land management.
