Hampton Park Central is set to be reinvigorated with a plan to transform it into a vibrant retail, commercial and community destination.
River Gum Ward Councillors Wayne Smith and Damien Rosario are excited to share with residents the Hampton Park Central Development Plan which outlines a vision to create a safe, connected and visually appealing town centre that will enhance the friendly and growing community.
Cr Smith said he was excited about the plan, which would help future proof Hampton Park.
“Council adopted the Development Plan in June this year after undertaking extensive community engagement, research and draft preparation.
“This ensured the document was well thought out and incorporated the vision of residents and businesses, for the town centre,” said Cr Smith.
Cr Rosario said he was looking forward to seeing the plan come to life in the bustling local hub.
“The Development Plan provides a clear framework for the future revitalisation of Hampton Park Central that will apply to private landowners or new developers.
“It aims to streamline and better inform planning decisions to make redevelopment more attractive in the area,” said Cr Rosario.
Key features of the Development Plan include:
• Provision for a mix of retail, commercial and community activities that encourage day and night activities.
• New street network with a realigned main street and a grid of north-south streets, creating a safe, cohesive and walkable town centre.
• New design guidelines to improve the look and feel of the streets and buildings.
• Creation of a strong sense of place, with a distinctive positive identity that reflects the local community.
• New environment and landscape guidelines to help maximise green space and celebrate Hampton Park Central’s natural assets in a beautiful landscape, connected to the River Gum Creek.
These guidelines complement the vision and works proposed to renew and develop Council’s local community facilities, as part of the Draft Hampton Park Central Community Precinct Master Plan.
The Draft Master Plan is currently under review after receiving public feedback and it proposes:
• A revitalised Community Hub with a variety of spaces including a library, family and children’s centre, Arthur Wren Hall and meeting rooms.
• A town square which celebrates the significant River Red Gum tree.
• A realigned Main Street to improve the street network in Hampton Park Central.
Once complete, the Master Plan and Development Plan will aim to realise the full potential of the town centre as a vibrant and safe retail, commercial and community destination.
