Four new apprentices have launched their careers in electricity generation, embarking on an exciting path of training and development at Synergy’s Muja Power Station near Collie.
The apprentices hail from around Western Australia’s South-West and will complete their four‑year program in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering in 2020, they are:
- Jed Wilkosz – Electrical Apprentice;
- Rohan Bam – Electrical Apprentice;
- Blake Stingel – Mechanical Apprentice; and
- Aaron Dexter – Mechanical Apprentice.
All four apprentices will be supported in their career development, and will be given on and off‑the-job training as part of the program.
Each apprentice is also allocated a mentor subject-matter-expert from their first day at Muja Power Station.
Synergy electrical apprentices Corey Gulvin and Bianca Benton, who graduated recently and also completed their Certificate IV in Engineering (Instrumentation), will continue to work at Muja Power Station.
Since 2015, Synergy has employed 20 apprentices, with 16 coming from the Collie region.
As stated by Energy Minister Bill Johnston:
“The McGowan Government understands the importance of upskilling our workforce to better prepare our electricity system for the future.
“Synergy’s apprenticeship program generates employment opportunities for young people in the South-West, including the Collie region.
“It is great to see these young people develop into quality tradespeople, and further contribute to providing a vital service to Western Australians – electricity generation.”
