Futureproofing our wastewater infrastructure

A core priority of Council over the past 18 months has been working diligently to upgrade and futureproof wastewater and sewer infrastructure right across the region. A particular focus has been made on bringing our assets in the Bombala region up to standard – including the brand new Bombala Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Since works got underway last year, Council has spent nearly $2m on sewer relining in Bombala, with another $800,000 still to go before the end of the year. All 22.7km of the sewer network has been inspected in the town, with 75% (16.6km) replaced so far.

The new Wastewater Treatment Plant, made possible by NSW Government grant funding, will be the jewel in the crown of a long-term process of bringing the wastewater infrastructure in Bombala up to a modern and sustainable standard.

These works are ushering in a new era of reliability, and once complete, it will be at least a decade before any further upgrade work is required.

This work demonstrates Snowy Monaro Regional Council’s commitment to ensuring a better future for every part of our region.

Building on the achievements in Bombala, CCTV inspection and condition assessment of sewer and wastewater infrastructure in Adaminaby, Nimmitabel, Berridale and Kalkite is already underway. 100% of the sewer infrastructure in these locations will be assessed.

The results from these investigations and condition assessments will allow us to appropriately prioritise the next lot of relining and upgrades in these towns and villages.

  • Kalkite – 3.8km
