The new Gerringong Library and Museum (GLaM) will throw open its doors to the public with a gala community opening tomorrow, Wednesday 1 December, from 2.30pm to 5pm.

Tomorrow’s activities will showcase the features and facilities of the GLaM as well as the programs that will be available to the community:

  • Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and tree planting
  • Craft activities, story time sessions and 3D printer demonstrations
  • Building competition and Wagstaff model exhibition
  • Live music, including local author, singer and songwriter Cara Whyte
  • Surfboard art
  • Face painting and lucky door prize

You will also be able to browse the 3,000 plus brand new books on the shelves, use the free Wi-Fi, computers, printer and multimedia facilities.

The multi-million dollar facility on Blackwood Street, Gerringong’s first dedicated library, boasts a purpose-built contemporary design featuring light, open and flexible new spaces for books, programs, exhibitions and technology.

The library wing of the GLaM is seamlessly integrated with the historic Gerringong School of Arts, the new home for the Gerringong and District Historical Society.

The opening of the museum wing marks 30 years since the Society opened the doors of its original museum in 1991.

The library and museum wings share a central foyer, exhibition gallery and community meeting space, which can be used by community groups and organisations during the day and after hours.

The building is also surrounded by landscaped areas for individual and group activities, with dedicated parking spaces and bike racks.

Construction of the Gerringong Library and Museum was made possible thanks to the funding support of the Australian and NSW governments, including:

$1,250,000.00 from the Australian Government Community Development Grants program.

$250,000 from the NSW Government via the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

$200,000 from the NSW State Library.
